potatohead people: nick & astro's guide to the galaxy

Francisco Espregueira

Vancouver producers and multi-instrumentalists Nick Wisdom and Astrological make up Potatohead People. Their latest LP, Nick & Astro's Guide To The Galaxy, is truthful to their signature sound, drawing influences from 90’s boom-bap, future soul, classic jazz, deep house and boogie/funk. Now with three years since their last release, 2015’s critically acclaimed debut album Big Luxury, Potatohead People are back with their long awaited new album.

The first single “Quest For Love” with it’s neck snapping drum break, rhodes chords, cosmic synths, bring in the influence of hip hop music the duo has become so loved for. “Do My Thing” featuring Canadian singer Kapok and Illa J is the perfect joint for happy nights. The two make no bones about coming together over a mutual love for hip hop icons such as Dilla or Madlib. Their influence is all over the place.

Have a listen and order the 12″ LP hereNick & Astro's Guide To The Galaxy, when played from A to Z, is particularly groundbreaking... lifting us up to somewhere else. It's a groovy, jazzy. A good motherfuckin' album indeed. Another one from Potatohead People. Enjoy.
