kiefer: between days
The last installment in Kiefer’s trilogy dropped last friday. Between Days, that follows up on Bridges and Superbloom (both from 2019), is a project of transition, marking the end of a phase in the multi-instrumentalist’s career - that still remains a source of inspiration for us since his celebrated debut Kickinit Alone. On his new record, we listen to Kiefer experimenting with a number of different ideas and textures that sound both melodic and playful, while maintaining his melancholic aura. Additional and extremely talented musicians, like Theo Croker, 10.4 ROG or Paul Castelluzzo, step in to add even more flavor to the project.
At the crossroads of jazz music and instrumental hip hop, Between Days is also a very interesting peek to what Kiefer might create in the future. Being the more ‘experimental’ of the trilogy, the record gives a stronger emphasis to the beatmaking prowess from this L.A. based music genius. Covering “Between Days” from The Cure or the classic Roy Ayers’ “Everybody Loves The Sunshine”, developing ideas from before while exploring sounds for tomorrow, Kiefer is (and we repeat ourselves) a supreme talent that we will ear for decades to come.
