Through Eclectic Beats Music, the label created by the connoisseur Rui Fradinho, Ruben Estevez and his Afro Bruk Band are preparing a special release. Inspired by the textures of bossa nova, afrobeat, the Yoruba culture and the broken beat sound that hails from the UK, this eponymous EP was born in the favelas and samba schools of São Paulo - reinventing Brazilian rhythms with the help of syncopated beats.
Ruben Estevez is the man behind this wonderful project. The Swiss-based producer and DJ of the Bruk Boogie Kru sound system aimed to create a project that felt live to its listeners - promoting musicians and ‘exporting’ their names and street culture outside of Brazil. Afro Bruk Band was mostly done in São Paulo with a few finishing touches in Johannesburg, before it went to final production. The result is a smooth exploration of passionate rhythms that convey so much history into a contemporary scene that keeps interpreting them.
