The vinyl-faced hero returns to O Sótão to present the 9th installment of his celebrated series of EP’s. The Milan-based Apparel Wax keeps on his trajectory of constant evolution of his music and the 009 EP proves it once again, consisting in a superb array of assorted sounds. Released by his mother-ship, Apparel Music, this is a sophisticated six-track record inspired by a diversity of sounds, present in the different approaches Apparel Wax demonstrates: from the mysterious & dreamy deep house of the A-side, to the breaks-inspired B-side.
009 EP kicks off in style with a Chicagoan touch taking over after a smooth intro: the mellow pad chords lay down the foundation of the arrangement, connecting with soft strings and melodious piano notes. “A2” opens with a steady kick and a silky bassline, murmuring throughout the whole track while the keys help to create a deep and dynamic beat. The A-side closes with a far-out, spacey atmosphere and its deep chords backed by an energetic rhythm section. Flipping to the B-side we hear sounds that are nothing but classy, with sampled vocals and elegant pads on “B1”. “B2” goes deeper, with an evolving piano melody, a balanced and groovy drum-sequence, and some masterly crafted vocal samples. Wrapping up the vinyl, we jump into a jungle-inspired beat, sprinkled with jazz, r&b and soul elements.
Once again Apparel Wax delivers a tenacious and cohesive work, faithful to his trademark touch. 009 EP is a strong record to start the warmest season of the year, with everyone hoping to be able to enjoy the outdoors without restrictions.
