caixa cubo: agôra
Francisco Espregueira
Caixa Cubo’s latest album Agôra, released under Jazz & Milk Recordings, showcases the Brazilian jazz trio’s eclectic style through electric funk and soulful melodies. Agôra features a plethora of guest vocalists and musicians such as Xênia França and Zé Leônidas from Brazil, Eric Owusu from Jembaa Groove in Ghana, and Bongani Givethanks & Mpho Nkuzo from South Africa. The album’s virtuosity lies in its minimalism, depth of space, and its ability to transcend beyond the boundaries of jazz. For the first time, the trio collaborated with singers to add a new aesthetic to their sound, allowing them to figure in and outside of the jazz fold.
Agôra is a wake-up call to reality, reminding listeners not to be consumed by greed and the infinite possibilities of technological progress. Instead, the album aims to center listeners and help them to reconnect with the earth, foster eye-to-eye relationships, and cherish moments lived in person. Through its Herbie-esque sound, Agôra illustrates the importance of living in the present moment, as that is all we truly possess. The album’s flow and energy provide the magic, allowing the trio to embrace what the moment provides and showcase their versatility and musicianship to a global audience. Available on vinyl.
