cassowary: cassowary
Francisco Espregueira
All the way from Los Angeles… After two weeks its release, is time to showcase the magnificent self-titled Cassowary - a harmonically rich modern jazz project that gives L.A. beat scene scents of garage rock blended with hip hop and r&b influences. For eleven tracks, that go by with absolute smoothness, we are taken into Miles Shannon’s (a.k.a. Cassowary) ideas, challenging us sonically. A melting pot of influences and a lot of things working at the same time.
The result: a refined, high class piece of work. Cool, impeccably performed and delicately produced to preserve the warmth and character of its players. At the same time the three-part “114º” connects the album together, futuristic jazz-funk influenced jams blast through to make Cassowary an unique album. Via Fat Possum Records and available on vinyl, this might be one of the best underground records of the year.
