greg surmacz: timelines (part 3)

Francisco Espregueira

Timelines (Part 3) is the third LP from Greg Surmacz and marks the end of a trilogy that has gained admirers from the likes of Tom Ravenscroft, Moses Boyd, Bandcamp Daily (and many more) with the previous installments of this immersive listening project. Released by XVI Records, this record sees the Leeds-based multi-instrumentalist ascending to a new spiritual plane. Bringing in other musicians for the first time, Surmacz presents a lush sound palette that blends electronic elements with organic and emotional textures.

Cinematic, intimate, unconventional, this is a mature artistic project, in which its creator moves deliberately. He’s joined by drummer Matt Davies and cellist Liz Hanks - to let loose on their respective instruments, weaving intricate webs of melody through textured sonics and twisted drums. Following Timelines (Part 1) & Timelines (Part 2), Greg Surmacz now delivers the final piece of the puzzle which sees him lock into a more laid-back frequency, opting for a slightly more zen approach - guiding the listener through a series of floating worlds and shifting soundscapes. Timelines (Part 3) is available on bandcamp, courtesy of XVI Records.

For the conclusion of the trilogy, my intention was to produce something more settled and reflective. Part 3 is about letting things breathe, and finding some stillness amongst a world of uncertainty and chaos.
