The Bakery, from Montreal producer Atamone and M.C., vocalist and beat maker Illa J, is a fruitful collaborative project. With an audible nod to classic hip hop production, Atamone grabs inspiration from soulful foundations, while Illa J brings his already unmistakable verbal icing, flowing from rap to r&b-esque melodies.
The rawness present in The Bakery is a sign that their creativity flowed organically. The mixture between sample based productions and live instrumentation is a smooth place, in which the lyrics and the groove live in harmony. Released last week through Inner Ocean Records, The Bakery is available on a limited vinyl edition, shipping in July. Before we finish tonight, we grab the artists recipe: “Each track will take its turn being your favorite so bake at 420 for 12 minutes, let cool and let the feast for your ears melt you like butter cream.”
