kyle hall & k15: steel sharpens steel ep
Francisco Espregueira
Kyle Hall & K15 reconnect across oceans on Steel Sharpens Steel EP, a release that feels much more than a collaboration. It’s like a shared language finally spoken out loud. Out on Hall’s long-running Wild Oats imprint, the record links Detroit intuition with West London finesse, tracing a relationship that goes back more than a decade. Both producers are known for trusting groove over gloss, and that philosophy runs deep here, where rhythm, swing and subtlety do most of the talking.
The EP moves fluidly between moods without losing focus. “Soft Centred Groove” opens with a loose, warm broken-house glide, while “Combined Elements” leans into jazzy flex and muscular bounce with a wink toward bruk traditions. Things get more tactile on “130 Bounce”, all low-end pressure and spaced-out detail, before the title track locks into a future-facing broken beat rush that feels built for movement. Released via Wild Oats, Steel Sharpens Steel EP is a reminder that when two seasoned voices meet on equal footing, the results cut deeper. Available on vinyl, this will be one of the deepest cuts of the year.
