(liv).e: couldn't wait to tell you...

Francisco Espregueira

(Liv).e has made significant waves in the last three years. Emerging as an elusive and nostalgic figure in Black music, she equally steps in both modern and throwback soul genres or subgenres. Recorded in the winter of 2018, Couldn’t Wait To Tell You… is her first LP and her strongest project to date - the one that could well be her breakthrough. Following ‘17 FRANK - that sounds like a lost classic from a bygone era of cosmic Afrocentric soul - and ‘18 ::hoopdreams:: - volleying between ’90s R&B, neo-soul, and trunk-rattling hip hop -, this album also looks to the past, while introducing a modern and exciting aesthetic.

Touching previous relationship and the emotions it conjured, the album doesn’t specifically focuses on any one theme. Instead, Couldn’t Wait To Tell You… feels like a diary with different entries painting different perspectives of the same, and complex, personality. Remarkably authentic, this is a head-in-the-clouds record that dabbles in the nuances of vast emotions, and as it plays, there’s a sense that (Liv).e is trying to reconcile her feelings on the fly. The 22-year-old singer-songwriter and producer drops her first studio album via In Real Life with pre-orders available for vinyl and cassette. Just three years into her career, (Liv).e has already reached a level of ease that other artists need years to achieve.

It’s like a diary—I don’t feel like there’s one focus. It’s just an album of general entries, with some different perspectives.
