melchior sultana: self reflection

Francisco Espregueira

The multi-instrumentalist and producer Melchior Sultana keeps building a rich and diverse discography, presenting a new and bold (much like his previous works) album through Oath. Self Reflection embraces plenty of his tried and tested motifs, not failing to deliver fresh sonic waves. Sultana music is sculpted by a myriad of influences and emotions that relate to his origins in Malta, growing up in an atmosphere of rich traditions, culture and arts in the middle of the Mediterranean. He is one of those artists that capture those essences and, through deep knowledge for the craft, expresses them to the fullest.

In his career, Sultana has been exploring new corners that intersect everything from techno, deep house, soul-jazz, trip-hop and what exists in-between. Self Reflection is aesthetically related to his latest phase, which seen him cover an enormous amount of ground within contemporary deep house. Although delving into darker tones, we feel the music very much alive in every single one of the ten tracks that compose the album. Spaces are filled carefully but with plenty of enthusiasm, with a keen eye placed upon every element to ensure that the frequencies all sing from the same song sheet. Available on vinyl, Self Reflection provides a spiritual joy that speaks directly from within to within.

A glowed embrace, a mystifying meander through twilight spaces, dipping between the shadows and the orange light, waiting for the moment when smiles abound and feelings muster….
