retromigration: straight foxin'

Francisco Espregueira

Retromigration, the talented producer hailing from Amsterdam, is making waves with his highly anticipated debut album, Straight Foxin’, set to be released tomorrow on the reputable WOLF Music Recordings. This meticulously crafted LP has been a long time in the making, and it certainly lives up to all the talent & groove that Retromigration has been showcasing in his young but immense discography. With fourteen impeccably executed tracks, he effortlessly traverses a multitude of genres, offering a delicious feast for a wide range of musical palates, collaborating with close colleagues that always add up a special and organic touch to Retromigration’s music: Nephews, Bezzix and the invaluable contribution of Mauricesax.

Seamlessly blending elements from different genres and crafting a cohesive sonic experience, the album opens with three tracks that pay homage to jazz, each presented in a unique style. From the hazy beats of “Kunta” to the broken beat and drum and bass fusion in “Formant,” and the off-kilter house vibes of “Be Someone,” Retromigration sets the stage for a diverse and captivating listening experience. Throughout the album, we can listen to his mastery of sample-laden house, offering deeper cuts like “Mada”, “Bouncer” or the amazong “All I Do”, alongside soulful explorations such as “New Cribs” and “ITWT.” Impossible to confine in one genre, the Dutch wonderkid serves up a high-energy section with tracks like “Kush Love” featuring Passion Deez, a bouncing footwork-infused groove, and the ethereal excursion of “What If.” The album reaches its peak with a nod to the golden era of jungle and drum and bass in “Mild Fever” and “Bad Knees.” With Straight Foxin' Retromigration establishes himself as a force to be reckoned with, delivering a debut album that is one of our favorites of the year - available on vinyl. As Retromigration continues to make his mark in the music scene, we eagerly anticipate what he has in store for us next.
