shungu: faith in the unknown

Francisco Espregueira

Shungu has always navigated his own path through the lush undercurrents of contemporary music, but with Faith in the Unknown, his vision reaches an exciting new peak. His music has a gentle magnetic pull, threading together jazz-inflected samples, lo-fi textures, and MPC-driven grooves that feel both timeless and untethered. This 14-track project is the realization of a long-held dream to curate a community of voices that inspire him, acting as a dialogue between different worlds, eras, and ways of feeling, all rooted in trust and creative risk. The result is a record that thrives in uncertainty, encouraging both artist and listener to let go and explore the unknown.

What sets Faith in the Unknown apart is its cohesive texture and its hypnotic pull. Though each track stands on its own, the album feels like one continuous journey, where the transitions between songs are almost imperceptible. With its gently swaying rhythms and soft, glowing analog warmth, Shungu’s production invites the listener into a space that’s both reflective and expansive. Whether it’s the ethereal guitar and Rhodes samples on “Did You Hear the News” or the soothing flow of Chester Watson’s understated verses on “Thin Line,” the record offers a deep, meditative experience. Released via Lex Records, Faith in the Unknown is as much about the communal energy behind the music as it is about the individual stories woven into every track—an invitation to trust the process and embrace the beauty in the spaces between. Available on vinyl. For the heads that buy future-classics.

I’ve always dreamed of making an album where I could bring together artists I deeply admire, curating voices, energies, and sensibilities that have inspired me.
