shungu feat. dreamcastmoe: temptation

Francisco Espregueira

Reaching his mogul status, ShunGu invites Dreamcastmoe, one of the most interesting artists currently hailing from the US, to write and sing over his brilliant productions. Temptation, via Trading Places Records, is a three-track EP that was first conceived in August 2019 as part of a week-long residency in a temporary studio by the Maastricht countryside. The idea was to provide the two artists with a space unshackled from city-induced stress and daily distractions and the result was no less than nineteen songs - some included in Dreamcastmoe’s Lamont EP and others still to be released -, exploring everything from groove-led soul and hip hop to uptempo efforts.

Temptation embodies the energy of that seven day retreat, laced with the cool and soulfulness of the pairing. From the warm, off-kilter hip-hop-come-soul goodness of “Nice To Meet You” and the title track to the languid, housey feels of first single “Replaceable”, the project details an intimate story we all can relate to: the constant battle between desire and mind power. Available in vinyl, Temptation is the result of the most promising collab of 2020.

Dreamcastmoe is a singer, songwriter, producer and photographer from Washington D.C. that crosses r&b, funk, soul, jazz and hip hop like nothing - he has a very special ability to twist and turn in different directions and yet remain stylistically coherent. Following his incredible Lamont EP (where were we?), mainly produced by ShunGu, and this EP, Dreamcastmoe is set to reach wider audiences. ShunGu doesn’t need many introductions - his work since 2014 has been revered and credited as avant-garde within the hip scene. He has been featured here since our beginning with countless golden productions that floated around Soundcloud or were included in albums such as the A Black Market Album or The Blue Tape (in collaboration with C.S. Armstrong).
