vinocio: tostados
Francisco Espregueira
Following the acclaimed Me Estas Haciendo Mal, that was picked up last year for a vinyl release on Felipe Gordon’s Wide Awake Records, the Argentinian band Vinocio returns with another collection of delightful, soulful and groovy tracks in their new album titled Tostados. Hailing from La Lucila, Buenos Aires, the duo comprised of Lucien Memi and Fermín Carpena, invites an array of friend musicians to collaborate on the record. On the verge of their second European tour, the new project is anchored in jazz, but taking smooth steps into neo-soul, instrumental hip hop and R&B.
Recorded and produced between 2022 and 2025, Tostados showcases once again brilliant performances anchored in multiple influences from D’Angelo to Herbie Hancock. Beyond Lucien and Fermin, the Vinocio act feels more like a collective of like-minded artists that connect over smooth soundwaves. The production work is beyond amazing and the album’s concept makes it even more worthy when listened in one go - containing many polished details and elements from familiar influences, incorporating them into something new and fresh. In a way, in a very much Argentinian chill vibe. Tostados is a killer record that is available on digital platforms. It would be great to have it on vinyl, eventually.
