yussef dayes: duality

Francisco Espregueira

Joined by bassist Rocco Palladino and keyboardist Charlie Stacey, drummer Yussef Dayes releases Duality, comprising two tracks in which the trio showcase their endless virtuosity and their magnificent musical intensity. Always leaning to provide the public with innovative approaches, the two tracks led by Dayes carry the attributes described above - nonetheless taking us to distant dimensions. From side A to side B.

Yussef Dayes is an inevitable name on any conversation about contemporary musical geniuses. The London-based drummer has been a pillar of the Bitish jazz scene for some years, reaching an uncharacteristic and smoky status as one of the most revered drummers of our generation. That status came purely through his talent ant through the invaluable collaborative works he has made so far. While the Yussef Kamaal project has granted both Yussef Dayes and Kamaal Williams a special place in the music scene from this ending decade, the collaborations with Alfa Mist, Mansur Brown (Love Is The Message and Blacked Out) and others are no less than exceptional too.

The visuals of Duality, directed by Florian Joahn, are a sophisticated melange of stylized, intimate scenes featuring a female dancer and performance footage with Dayes, Stacey and Palladino. A piece to appreciate and feel within. Something is comin’ our way in 2020, courtesy of Yussef Dayes.
