Francisco Espregueira

Scheme’s debut project hits us straight onto our soul. The all-star team of arrangers, composers and writers from Montreal navigates through free jazz, hip hop soul and broken beats with no compromises. On seven tracks we are taken into smooth territories, with the instruments and voices sounding live, intimate, just like they were playing in front of us.

The Montreal-based sextet approaches their self-titled debut EP with the spirit of ‘90s acid jazz and soul bands from that era. Inserted on a post-hip-hop scenario, the production of the EP brings a sense of textural depth to the music. Everything is cool. Breezy. Laidback. Performed with virtuosity. It is a wonderful surprise… so don’t sleep. Released last week, Schemes, dropped with a limited tape release. Once they are gone, they are gone.
