swoze: new rims
Francisco Espregueira
Every so often a record lands that feels like a car rolling out onto a midnight street — wheels whirling, chrome gleaming, bass thumping. That’s exactly the vibe on Swoze’s latest record NEW RIMS on Former City Records. Coming two years after his incredible Church EP (Former City Records, 2023), this new drop upgrades his sound. The loose, human-feel dance grooves and fresh chord progressions pull us in from the first listen, while Swoze’s signature lead “sauce” glides over the mix like neon rims catching streetlights. NEW RIMS rolls out a six-track offering, each cut polished and pressed for vinyl — a gesture that nods to analog warmth.
What’s cool about this record is how it stakes out identity — for the artist, and for the label. Former City Records, based in Dresden, has built a reputation for releasing projects that straddle dance, funk, and underground groove — and NEW RIMS feels right at home in that lineage. Shifting gears from the G-funk grit into something more fluid grooves that glide with an effortless cool. Available on vinyl.
“This vinyl officially serves as a driver’s license within Dresden.”
