trickpony: 24/7 heaven
Francisco Espregueira
With 24/7 Heaven, trickpony step back into focus on Step Bell Chain, refining the downtempo dream language they first sketched out on their debut record titled Pillow Talk (Step Ball Chain, 2024). The trio sit comfortably in a modern trip-hop lineage, but their sound feels less nostalgic and more quietly futuristic, built from soft-focus pop fragments, deep subs, and dubwise restraint. Step Bell Chain has carved out a niche for emotionally charged, left-of-centre electronic music, and this release fits naturally into that world — sensual without excess, intimate without feeling small.
Across six tracks, 24/7 Heaven moves patiently, letting texture do most of the talking. Breaks roll in slow motion, synths bloom and dissolve, and vocals arrive like half-remembered thoughts. There’s confidence in the restraint, especially on the more stripped-back moments, where space becomes part of the hook. By the time the record drifts into its closing psychedelic turns, it’s clear this isn’t about chasing peaks. It’s about mood, detail, and the kind of atmosphere that lingers long after the needle lifts. Available on Bandcamp.
