Soul Quest Records marks its eleventh release with Maintain Altitude, a super nice compilation EP that feels like a family gathering, bringing together both familiar and fresh faces to encapsulate the label's sonic ethos, a direction forged since its inception in 2023. This collection serves as a testament to the deep talent pool the label champions, offering a wide-reaching spectrum of house-oriented cuts that vividly illustrate Soul Quest's musical personality and impressive depth. From the emotive and soul-infused progressions of Max Sinal and KingCrowney's "Intentions," featuring the ethereal vocals of Liv East, to the percussive groove and dreamy vocal interplay of label co-founder SIxm Sol's "NYBB," the A-side sets a high bar for sophisticated house music. Hitch 93 then rounds out the first half with the earworm chord progression and hypnotic atmosphere of "Uno, Dos, Tres, Four."
The B-side of Maintain Altitude elevates the energy, kicking off with Rob Redford's sun-drenched "Garden Party," built around an inspired sample that radiates pure, hands-in-the-air joy. Soul Groove follows with the enticing drum patterns and captivating melodies of "The Blues Kitchen," a prime house stepper that effortlessly commands the dancefloor. Finally, Flying Moth's brief but sweet "Edith" delivers skipping grooves and a heart-thumping bassline, topped with delicately stirring melodies. This EP, a record perfectly suited for any occasion, proudly reflects the essence of Soul Quest Records and confidently sets the stage for an exciting new chapter in their musical journey.
